Tobe Hooper

American film director and screenwriter, best known for his work in the horror film genre. He was born on January 25, 1943 in Austin, Texas. His parents owned a theatre in San Angelo and he first became interested in filmmaking when he used his father’s 8 mm camera at age 9. His works include the cult classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), along with its first sequel, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986); the three-time Emmy-nominated Stephen King film adaptation Salem’s Lot (1979); and the three-time Academy Award-nominated, Steven Spielberg-produced Poltergeist (1982). In 2003, Hooper co-produced the successful remake of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. The feature film Leatherface (2017), produced buy Hooper and technically the eighth film in the Chainsaw franchise, was premiered just one day before his death, on August 26, 2017.
