After getting a degree in Media Studies and graduating from the ECAM (Madrid Film School), Paco Plaza began his career shooting short films such as Tropismos (1995), Abuelitos (1999) and Puzzles (2001). In 2002, he directed his first feature film Second Name, for which he won the silver Mèliés for best European fantastic genre feature film at the Sitges Festival.

In 2004, he shot Romasanta: The Werewolf Hunt, but his definitive consecration would come in 2007 when he joined Jaume Balagueró to direct the horror film [Rec], the beginning of the successful saga. Later will come the acclaimed Verónica (2016), Eye for an Eye (2019) and The Grandmother (2021), which have earned multiple nominations and awards.
