Belén Rueda has become one of the most famous “scream queens” of our genre cinema. After an extensive television career in series for more than ten years, she made her film debut in 2004 with The Sea Inside, directed by Alejandro Amenábar, for which she won a Goya award. In 2007 she starred in The Orphanage under the orders of Juan Antonio Bayona. Other successful films would come later, many of them within the fantasy and horror genre, such as For the Good of Others (2010), Julia’s Eyes (2010), The Body (2012), The 7th Floor (2013), Orbiter 9 (2017), Perfect Strangers (2017), You Shall Not Sleep (2018), The Pact (2018), Twin Murders: The Silence of the White City (2019), and the recent Phenomena (2023).

The actress has received different awards and nominations throughout her career. Apart from the aforementioned Goya, we can mention the Award for Best Leading Actress awarded by the Union of Actors in 2004, the nomination for Best Actress at the European Film Academy Awards for her work in The Orphanage, or the Sitges Grand Honorary Award that she received in 2021.
